The Oriental hobby (Falco severus) is a bird of the Falco family and the genus Falco. Similar in size to the Eurasian hobby, it is a small raptor with a body length of 25-30 cm and a weight of 180-250 g. The head and flight feathers are black, the rest of the upper body is slate gray, the iris is dark brown, the mouth is light blue gray, the apex is black, the tarsus and toes are yellow, and the claws are black. Falcons generally live at the foot of mountains with many trees, and inhabit low hills and plains at the foot of mountains with sparse forests or small jungles. They are often active alone or in pairs, especially in the early morning and evening. It mainly feeds on Coleoptera insects, birds and bats, and also eats mice and lizards. Distributed in India, Myanmar, Indochina Peninsula, Philippines, New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
